Emma's First Christmas

This year Megan asked Santa for a candy cane and a princess rocking chair to be delivered to Bakersfield. I am assuming that she envisions sitting on the front porch passing time by rocking away the days, licking high fructose corn syrup in festive holiday colors. We got her one of those 1 foot tall candy canes from our local bargain store. Her eyes should pop out of her head when she sees it. At about 9am Christmas morning I am expecting to see Megan comatose in a diabetic stupor (with big smile.)
Meanwhile, the baby has taken a liking to the $30 "fuzzy Santa heads" light strand that we adorned our tree with this year, as well as, the still singing broken Rudolph whos head is hanging on by a wire (casualty of Megan.) We have only broken 8 ornaments this year and still counting. Megan was sad the first day we put up the tree - we later found out that she thought Santa would not make it down the chimney with the tree in front of the fireplace. We assured her that in Bakersfield, there would be a wide chimney for Santa to get through with no tree in front. Maybe we will leave biscuits and gravy for Santa instead of cookies this year. In addition, in my lack of holiday cheer - Megan noted that, "we have no stockings hung by the chimney with care." I assured her that grandma would have 11 or more hung by her chimney including one for each animal...
